RYA Inland Waterways Helmsman Certificate (IWHC) Tuition
Gain the confidence to relax and explore the inland waterways at your own pace.
Knowing how to handle the boat properly and navigate locks will give you the confidence you need to relax and make the most of your time on the water.
Our one and two day courses are suitable for beginners and more experienced boaters, making sure you have the knowledge and skills to explore the waterways safely and at your own pace.
Boat Owners Tuition & Improvement
There’s more to sailing the UK canal system than locks and pubs!
These courses focus on the practical aspects of boating including the best way to use locks and swing bridges, and how to deal with problems when they arise, plus knots and decorative ropework tuition.
“Own Boat” Instruction for Existing Boat Owners
Want to refresh your boating skills or better understand your boat?
We offer informal courses by the hour/day for existing boat owners who want to improve their skills on their own boat or have specific needs.
A Relaxing Day
New to boating but want a fun and hassle free day on the canal?
We offer day charters around the local area with an RYA qualified skipper so you can do as much or as little as you want.
Team-Building Days For Groups & Companies
The new shift to working from home has been a welcome change for many, but an effective team needs to be able to work together. And there’s no better example than sailing!
Put your team to the test on the Leeds and Liverpool canal where they will need to work
together to plan, navigate and operate the lock systems (all under the supervision of our
RYA qualified skipper of course!) and enjoy a fun filled and memorable experience!
The area extends from the lee of Pendle Hill that wafts ghostly stories of the Pendle Witches over the village below, but it also whispers a powerful story of religious reform too. George Fox scrambled to the top of the hill in 1652, and was moved to form the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) who built much of our canal network.
Heading south the on the ‘Straight Mile’ of the Burnley Embankment you glide 60ft high over the Burnley rooftops and the historic site of the Weavers Triangle.
It is spectacular, one of the canal 'Seven Wonders' and the most expensive single length of our canal system.
As the engine takes the strain through the 1,677ft long Gannow Tunnel, appreciate boatmen of old, Legging along the ceiling or wall to propel the heavily ladened boats towards the light at the end of the tunnel.

Our start and end times are also flexible and can be discussed at the time of booking.

We also recommend that you bring a camera to capture the beautiful scenery and nature on this exceptional part of the Leeds & Liverpool canal!
